Software Engineering Manager

In this role you will lead software delivery activities across engineering management and work package delivery. You’ll establish processes, methodologies and tools for software development, and coordinate resources to fulfill defined scopes within time and cost constraints. The role involves guiding cross-site teams, managing risks, and ensuring delivery to customer needs, with some travel and hybrid on-site work. Security clearance is required to operate in this environment. This position sits within Thales UK’s multi-site, client-facing projects, contributing to defence, space, aerospace and digital security outcomes.

• Define and implement software engineering processes, practices and standards across the software development lifecycle
• Plan, monitor and control software work packages to meet scope, cost, time and quality targets
• Identify, manage and mitigate project risks; coordinate multi-site teams and stakeholders
• Lead project teams without direct line management responsibility, ensuring delivery from multiple integrated development, integration, verification and qualification teams
• Coordinate resources (human and technical) and adapt methodologies to project needs
• Travel to client sites and other Thales UK locations as required

• Background in Software Engineering and experience of the Software Development Lifecycle
• Experience delivering software projects across the full lifecycle with awareness of commercial impact
• Knowledge and experience of agile methodologies and practices
• Experience delivering multi-million-pound software work packages
• Experience of multi-site/multi-country development within complex stakeholder environments
• Substantial experience in a SW Delivery role including management of multiple teams across development, integration, verification and qualification
• Security clearance (UK)
