Software Engineering Manager

You will lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams within a global technology organisation delivering reserving and insurance software. You will drive the shift from desktop/on‑prem to cloud/SaaS, building secure, scalable, and user-centered applications while improving engineering effectiveness and developer experience. You will foster an inclusive, high‑performing culture and apply modern practices, AI-assisted tooling, and DevSecOps to deliver valuable software safely and sustainably. • Accountable for development, release and continuous improvement of reserving products with Agile, product-oriented or flow-based delivery
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers, fostering an inclusive, collaborative and psychologically safe culture
• Partner with Architects, Senior Engineers, Product, Platform, Security and Operations to define robust, scalable, secure architectures for cloud/SaaS evolution
• Provide delivery and technical troubleshooting support, unblocking issues, managing risks and identifying systemic improvements
• Enable a data-informed engineering culture using metrics to identify bottlenecks and guide improvement
• Recruit, onboard, develop and retain engineers, supporting career development and improving team structures
• Oversee development, QA, security and governance processes, improving practices, automation and tooling
• Promote responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools and automation with balance of review, maintainability and security
• Champion developer experience by reducing friction, improving documentation, reusable patterns and self-service engineering

• Experience leading multi-disciplinary Agile, product-oriented or flow-based engineering teams delivering complex software
• Full software development lifecycle experience in commercial/production environment including discovery, estimation, architecture and design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance and operational support
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles: maintainable architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, secure-by-design, observability and reliability
• Track record of growing teams and leading transformation across engineering effectiveness, Agile/flow-based delivery, cloud/SaaS adoption, DevSecOps and technology modernisation
• Strong leadership: proactive, decisive, collaborative, inclusive and focused on continuous improvement
• Ability to use engineering metrics to improve delivery flow, quality, reliability, developer experience without excessive overhead
