Overview

In this role you lead and grow a high-performing engineering team building scalable, cloud-native systems for a global fitness platform. You own architecture decisions, drive SDLC and Agile practices, and partner with product, QA, and operations to deliver reliable services. You shape technical direction, ensure performance and security, and optimize cost and observability. This is a hands-on leadership position with a strong impact on product reliability and user experience, powered by modern microservices and data-driven approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams, overseeing hiring, coaching, and career development
  • Define technical direction and architecture for scalable, high-availability systems and microservices
  • Partner with product and stakeholders to translate roadmaps into actionable delivery plans
  • Drive system design reviews for distributed patterns, event-driven architectures, and data modeling for SQL/NoSQL
  • Own the SDLC and Agile/SCRUM processes, including sprint planning and backlog management
  • Champion CI/CD and DevOps practices to enable safe, automated releases
  • Collaborate with SRE/Ops on monitoring, observability, logging, and incident management
  • Oversee performance tuning, capacity planning, and cost optimization in cloud environments
  • Design and enforce testing strategies (unit/integration/e2e, TDD/BDD, load testing)
  • Advocate security and compliance best practices (OAuth, SAML, OWASP)
  • Manage infrastructure-as-code and cloud automation (Terraform, CloudFormation) across AWS/Azure/GCP
  • Oversee messaging/data architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Cassandra) for throughput and resilience
  • Lead code reviews, manage technical debt, and drive architectural improvements
  • Improve incident postmortems and runbooks to enhance reliability and observability
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in a management or technical lead role
  • Proven architecture and design experience for high availability and scalable systems
  • Strong background in microservices, event-driven architecture, REST/gRPC
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker
  • Solid CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and distributed tracing (Jaeger, Zipkin)
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) and data modeling
  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Programming in Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go; build tools like Maven/Gradle
  • Experience with test automation, TDD/BDD and load testing (JMeter)
  • Knowledge of DevOps/SRE, IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud cost management
  • Security best practices including OAuth, SAML, OWASP
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
