Overview

In this role you will drive the modernization and scaling of BT’s consumer billing platforms, delivering cloud-native solutions and new microservices. You will lead engineering direction, mentor teams, and ensure high-quality, reliable delivery across complex systems. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to align technical change with business priorities and deliver measurable improvements in reliability and customer outcomes. This is a hands-on technical leadership position with a focus on architecture, operation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead rollout of new technology across consumer billing platforms with minimal service disruption
  • Own end-to-end delivery from design to production support for billing services
  • Establish engineering standards, release readiness, and delivery controls for resilient platform changes
  • Design and evolve cloud-native billing solutions using microservices, API-first design, and scalable integration patterns
  • Make key technical decisions on Java/Spring Boot services, AWS/EKS workloads, and Oracle DB design
  • Develop new microservices and backend capabilities to support billing journeys and modernization
  • Review and optimize application code, service interactions, containers, and DB access
  • Support discovery for existing/brownfield billing apps to identify migration opportunities
  • Ensure billing services are deployed and operated with strong observability, resilience, and CI/CD
  • Lead production readiness, incident response, and root-cause analysis for revenue-impacting issues
  • Guide Oracle DB usage, data access patterns, and schema design for performance and integrity
  • Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, QA, and Operations to align technical work with business goals
  • Provide technical leadership through design/code reviews and architectural guidance
  • Mentor engineers in microservices, Java/Spring Boot, AWS/EKS, and DB integration
  • Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across delivery teams
