Software Engineering Specialist

In this role you will shape and lead the technical architecture for Secure Contracts, BT’s government-focused unit. You’ll guide solution design, work with cross‑functional stakeholders, and drive modernisation of government services while upholding security postures. The role combines hands‑on engineering with architecture leadership to win new business and set technical direction. You’ll operate in a hybrid, security‑clearance‑dependent environment, contributing to strategy and governance.

• Design scalable, maintainable software architectures to meet requirements
• Guide business and technical discovery with stakeholders
• Produce robust proposals and scope documents identifying dependencies and gaps
• Create innovative, repeatable architectures addressing complex problems
• Clarify capabilities for stakeholders and demonstrate product value
• Enhance team knowledge, methodologies, and external collateral
• Align designs with Enterprise Architecture guardrails and patterns
• Provide technology leadership to shape long‑term solution architecture strategy
• Deliver on strategic initiatives aligned with commercial strategy
• Promote emerging trends in solution architecture and mentor peers
• Act as technical expert on architecture governance and design authority for roadmap‑aligned products/services

• System design and architecture of scalable software systems
• Mastery of at least one programming language from the list (React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Tailwind/Bootstrap, C#, ASP.NET, SQL, Java)
