Software Team Lead

As Software Team Lead at Roke you will steer technical teams to deliver mission-critical software for national security. You’ll shape approaches across AI, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Big Data, and Digital Transformation while mentoring engineers and maintaining best practices. You’ll translate user needs into actionable epics, design robust architectures, and ensure secure, reusable code. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on delivery in a high-impact, cross-functional environment.

• Provide direction within the scrum team
• Liaise with the engineering lead
• Decompose user requests into epics and stories
• Write clean, secure, test-driven code
• Create open by default and reusable code
• Translate logical to physical designs
• Produce detailed designs
• Document work according to standards
• Work with emerging technologies and identify patterns
• Integrate API/UI components with data stores and APIs
• Maintain and develop Data Ingest, Data Stores and REST APIs
• Participate in sprint ceremonies (daily stand-ups, planning, demos)
• Assist the wider team to understand upcoming API features and their impact
• Collaborate with user researchers and represent users internally
• Explain differences between user needs and desires
