Typical Activities
Working in collaboration with internal stakeholders across Engineering, Product Management, Project Management, Architecture and Programme Delivery, the Software Technical Lead will provide technical leadership, architectural direction and mentoring to ensure the successful delivery of secure, scalable software solutions.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership across one or more software delivery projects.
- Own the technical direction and architecture of assigned projects.
- Act as the technical authority and escalation point for complex engineering issues.
- Lead technical design reviews and code reviews to ensure engineering quality and consistency.
- Support project planning, estimation and prioritisation activities.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies and assumptions, ensuring mitigation plans are in place.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Product Managers and Engineering teams to achieve delivery objectives.
- Define and promote software quality standards and engineering best practices.
- Mentor software engineers through coaching, design reviews and technical guidance.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement and the adoption of new technologies across software engineering practices.
What we’re looking for
- Strong software engineering background with experience delivering complex software systems.
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams delivering complex solutions.
- Experience designing and delivering secure, scalable and maintainable software solutions.
- Understanding of secure software development practices and security‑by‑design principles.
- Experience with Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Experience working within cloud‑native or distributed architectures.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience working with Agile/Iterative delivery methodologies and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to translate customer and business requirements into software architectures and delivery plans.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage customers, stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments.
- Experience within Government, Defence or Cyber Security sectors.
- Experience acting as the technical authority on customer‑facing software projects.
- Broad understanding of software architecture patterns, integration approaches and security principles.
- Experience providing technical leadership across multiple software projects.

Qualifications & Eligibility:
To Be Eligible For This Position You Must
- Have significant experience leading software engineering teams and delivering complex software solutions in a technical leadership capacity; and,
- Be a British citizen; and
- Hold or be eligible for UK National Security Vetting (NSV) - SC (DV desirable).
