SQL Developer
Primo Interactive Limited
Every system we build stands on a relational database, and many of the problems that reach a client start there: a slow query, a missing index, a migration that locked a table at the wrong moment. This role owns that layer.
You will design schemas with the developers, write and tune the queries that matter, extract data for reports and migrations, and keep backups, users and permissions in order across MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
What you will be doing
- Design schemas and migrations with the developers, and review the ones they write.
- Find and fix slow queries from the plan and the slow log.
- Extract, clean and move data for reports, imports and system migrations.
- Look after backups, users and permissions, and test that a restore works.
- Write down how each database is set up, so nobody has to guess.
What you will need
- At least five years of commercial work in this field that you can show us. We promise clients that everyone on their project has that, so it is not negotiable.
- SQL you write by hand, in production, on at least one of MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
- Reading a query plan and knowing what to change.
- A migration or data move you planned, ran and checked afterwards.
- Care with data that belongs to someone else.
Useful, not required
- More than one of the three database engines.
- Character sets and collations, and the trouble they cause in older tables.
