Sr Lead Software Engineer - Java / Python

Overview

In this role you lead the design and delivery of trusted, high-performance software for trading systems within Digital Markets Execution Technology. You work as a core technical contributor in an agile, cross-functional team to build secure, scalable solutions that meet business objectives. You drive reliability, security, and observability while guiding API strategies, incident response, and AI-assisted development to improve quality and delivery speed. This is a hands-on, impact-focused role at a premier financial services firm.

Responsibilities
  • Execute and oversee end-to-end software solutions, architecture, and troubleshooting for trading systems
  • Design and build high-performance, latency-sensitive services with awareness of upstream/downstream dependencies
  • Develop secure, production-grade code and review others’ code
  • Lead technical analysis, planning, reviews, and retrospectives to drive delivery outcomes
  • Establish reliability goals and implement observability and resilience patterns
  • Lead incident response and post-incident reviews to improve stability and automate remediation
  • Uphold secure-by-default engineering practices and risk/control standards across the SDLC
  • Guide integration contracts, API/versioning strategies, and deprecation paths for platform services
  • Drive adoption of enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering tools with validation for correctness, performance, and security
  • Mentor engineers and foster include, collaborative, continuous-improvement culture aligned to outcomes
Key requirements
  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience in Java / Python
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for mission-critical platforms
  • Advanced in Java (17+), including concurrency and OO design
  • Experience designing clean APIs and rollout strategies for distributed systems with backward compatibility
  • Practical experience with Spring/Spring Boot, microservices, Kubernetes, Linux, and core networking/messaging concepts
  • Proficient in SDLC, CI/CD, automated testing, resiliency, and security
  • Experience leading use of enterprise-approved AI-assisted development tools and setting validation standards
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, data sensitivity, and secure inputs/outputs
