Staff Backend Engineer, EMEA

As Staff Backend Engineer, you provide technical leadership across multiple teams, shaping architecture and platform standards. You’ll drive modularization efforts, oversee large backend initiatives, and guide AI-assisted practices with strong security and reliability gatekeeping. This role combines deep backend expertise with product judgment to enable rapid, safe delivery at scale. You’ll influence roadmaps, mentor engineers, and own production reliability in a remote-first, autonomous culture.

• Lead cross-cutting backend initiatives spanning multiple teams
• Own architecture strategy for modular backend, data, and platform components
• Set and improve standards for APIs, testing, security, performance, and deployment practices
• Establish patterns for dependency management, data ownership, and service maturity
• Contribute to production ownership through on-call and incident response
• Shape technical direction and partner with Product/Engineering leadership on platform roadmap
• Mentor engineers and reduce technical debt with reusable patterns
• Lead AI adoption and define guardrails for safe agentic workflows

• Sustained technical leadership across more than one team or broad product area
• Deep backend architecture experience in complex applications or platforms
• Experience modernizing monoliths toward modular architectures
