Staff Backend Engineer IoT Systems

Build scalable backend systems with Kafka and Flink at Motive, working hybrid in the office two days weekly. Transform IoT telemetry into fleet visibility.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Equipment Monitoring team, you will process data from asset gateways, sensors, and beacons. Your work supports real-time locations, geofence events, trips, and alerts. You will build cloud services while collaborating with Embedded, firmware, IoT, and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build observable, reliable, scalable telemetry backend services
• Design Kafka and Flink stream-processing pipelines
• Maintain scalable APIs for internal and external applications
• Collaborate on device data contracts and feature delivery
• Improve code quality and reduce technical debt

Requirements:

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field
• Five or more years of software development experience
• Distributed systems and event-driven pipeline experience
• Modern programming language experience; Ruby, Golang, Kotlin, or Java valued
• AWS, database, IoT, or geospatial systems experience
