Overview

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Fresha, you will steer high-impact backend work within a cross-functional team shaping the platform for global beauty and wellness professionals. You’ll own architecture, drive cross-team initiatives, and raise the bar on stability, performance, and scalability. You’ll work in a fast-paced, autonomous environment, contributing to a migration toward microservices and leveraging AI augmentation to accelerate delivery. Responsibilities
  • Own and deliver cross-team technical initiatives
  • Take ownership of tribe architecture
  • Provide technical guidance to product teams
  • Lead improvements in stability, performance, and scalability of critical systems
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects with tangible business impact
  • Lead by example to enforce engineering practices
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Data and QA to deliver value
  • Foster continuous learning and improvement for the team
  • Ensure systems meet Fresha quality, reliability, and scalability standards
  • Anticipate technical changes and keep Fresha ahead of the curve
  • Act as a multiplier by building tools or policies to boost team productivity
  • Communicate technical direction externally and internally to build consensus
Key requirements
  • AI-Augmented Workflow experience with integrating AI agents into engineering pipelines
  • Delivery of large systems involving multiple teams on time and at high quality
  • Strong problem-solving and rapid breakdown of complex problems
  • Proficiency in debugging complex issues
  • Strategic involvement in multi-year technology planning for critical areas
  • Architectural design capabilities enabling multiple future scenarios
  • Ability to build relationships and influence across the business
  • Facilitation and consensus-building for technical decisions
  • Planning short- to mid-term technical direction (6–12 months)
  • Mentorship and role-modeling for technical staff
  • Proven track record of simplifying complex projects and architectures
  • Experience shaping broad architectures and shipping large services or infrastructure
