Staff Backend Platform Engineer

Build Harvey’s backend platform in Toronto with distributed systems and scalable service architecture expertise. This in-person role supports enterprise legal technology.

As a Staff Backend Software Engineer, you will shape foundational infrastructure and user-facing features for leading law firms and enterprise customers. Harvey’s platform supports authentication, permissions, feature flags, notifications, and document management integrations. You will work across platform engineering and product iteration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design foundational backend infrastructure for enterprise platform capabilities
• Build internal systems supporting multiple product lines
• Develop secure collaboration and cross-organization workflows
• Maintain security, privacy, and system reliability
• Collaborate with product, AI, design, and GTM teams

Requirements:

• 10+ years of backend-focused software engineering experience
• Experience shipping user-facing features across the stack
• Knowledge of distributed systems, REST/gRPC APIs, and databases
• Familiarity with enterprise SaaS patterns and integrations
• Strong programming skills and Computer Science knowledge
