Overview

In this Staff Design Engineer role, you will shape the core interaction layer of Miro’s canvas, multiplayer, and AI experiences. You’ll embed with cross-functional teams to raise overall design and craft quality, shipping in code-first ways that land with real users. You’ll drive the evolution of a visual, collaborative workspace where AI acts as a genuine teammate, not a bolt-on feature. This is a chance to influence how teams think, create, and co-create at scale, across the canvas and AI portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Own the core interaction layer of the canvas including rendering, input handling, and spatial transitions
  • Design and implement multiplayer moments such as presence, cursors, conflict, and co-creation
  • Define AI collaboration in a visual, multiplayer space and shape how AI outputs integrate on the canvas
  • Create moments of delight via animations, micro-interactions, and smooth transitions
  • Build patterns, prototypes, and shared tooling to accelerate design and engineering teams
  • Write documentation, mentor others, and set quality standards to ensure coherence across the canvas
  • Collaborate with product designers, engineers, PMs, and researchers across the canvas and AI portfolio
Key requirements
  • Fluency in React, TypeScript, and CSS
  • Hands-on experience with WebGL, Canvas API, SVG, and complex layouts
  • Craft in motion design, timing, and transition management
  • Experience designing real-time multiplayer systems (presence, conflict, co-authorship)
  • Experience designing AI experiences with probabilistic outputs
  • Prototype-first mindset with fast browser-based exploration
  • Systems thinking across a large product surface and coherence across teams
  • Experience with streaming APIs and UX for probabilistic systems
  • Ability to influence quality through writing, mentorship, and standards setting
