Overview

In this Staff Engineer role, you will own the end-to-end architecture for 9fin’s CoreMarkets engineering group, shaping scalable backend systems and shared platform capabilities. You’ll align multiple teams around a common technical vision, guiding complex initiatives from design to production. The role combines hands-on coding with strategic leadership to raise engineering standards and accelerate delivery. You’ll work with AI-led priorities to improve search, retrieval, and platform reliability in a fast-growing global context.

Responsibilities
  • Define and steer technical strategy and architecture for Platform, AI, Retrieval, and shared services
  • Partner with Engineering Leaders to drive platform investments and direction
  • Design scalable backend systems, APIs, and platform capabilities
  • Guide cross-team architecture to reduce complexity and establish common patterns
  • Collaborate with AI/Retrieval teams to build scalable search and RAG capabilities
  • Lead complex cross-team technical initiatives from design through production
  • Improve platform reliability, scalability, observability, and developer experience
  • Contribute hands-on to critical technical work and raise engineering standards through reviews and mentoring
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering to boost productivity and delivery
Key requirements
  • Experience designing large-scale backend systems and distributed architectures
  • Strong systems design skills and cross-team leadership
  • AWS, Kubernetes, APIs, and modern backend development experience
  • Familiarity with AI-powered systems, RAG, search platforms, or vector databases
  • Proficiency in Python or another modern backend language
  • Ability to influence technical direction without formal authority
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
