Staff / Senior Machine Learning Engineer, AV Core

As a Senior/Staff ML Engineer in Wayve’s AV Core, you shape the safety-critical models that enable emergency maneuvers and collision detection for autonomous driving. You drive end-to-end development from problem framing to deployment, working with cross-functional teams to improve generalisation across fleets and markets. You will oversee research-to-production cycles, online/offline evaluation, and evidence for deployment, in a mission-driven, high-ownership environment. This role offers influence over core safety capabilities and hands-on impact on real-world systems.

• Define and drive the Core Model Safety roadmap from research to production, including experiments and technology transfer
• Train and deploy end-to-end AV 2.0 models for emergency manoeuvre prediction and collision detection across a global fleet
• Collaborate on online occupancy models for geometric and semantic perception
• Build high-value evaluations (open-loop and closed-loop) for core capabilities and representation learning
• Align priorities with AV Core, Evaluation, and Product Engineering; mentor teammates and translate feedback from fleet, simulation, and product data into improvements
• Maintain awareness of company priorities and how Core Model Safety enables near-term product programs

• Strong ML engineering track record in ambiguous problems with scoping, evaluation, and knowledge transfer
• Hands-on experience with ML systems deployed in the real world
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch; solid software engineering practices for training/evaluation systems
• Excellent experimental judgement; ability to formulate falsifiable hypotheses and actionable metrics
• Senior-level ownership and cross-functional collaboration; ability to lead a substantial technical area and communicate clearly
