Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer in Belfast, you will provide technical leadership within a cross-functional team, shaping architecture and delivering features for a high-transaction, mission-critical platform. You’ll mentor engineers, collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders, and contribute to scalable, robust services in a modern CI/CD environment. The role balances hands-on development with strategic direction to ensure performance and reliability at scale. You will work to drive engineering excellence and cross-team collaboration, aligning with the company’s mission to deliver resilient platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor engineers across experience levels
  • Design, develop, review, and maintain complex codebases
  • Advise on testing strategies and quality standards
  • Shape architectural decisions for scalable services
  • Estimate effort and support delivery planning
  • Support deployment across test and production environments
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and communicate solutions to stakeholders
  • Promote coding standards, patterns, and continuous improvement
  • Assist onboarding and training for the team
Key requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong server-side development with C# / .NET
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable web or service-based solutions
  • Relational databases experience (SQL Server or equivalent)
  • Experience with CI/CD environments (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo)
  • Strong automated testing background (unit testing, BDD)
  • Understanding of software design principles, OOP, refactoring, design patterns
  • Experience in Agile delivery (Scrum, Kanban, Lean)
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Must be based in Northern Ireland or within commuting distance of Belfast with UK work rights
