As a Staff Software Engineer in Hosting Services, you will shape the technical foundations for Airbnb’s expanding host ecosystem. You’ll be a hands-on leader collaborating across product, design and business teams to turn ideas into scalable, customer-facing products and integrations. You’ll influence strategy, architect flexible systems and drive innovation to deliver measurable value for hosts and the business. Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical design and development of new customer-facing products, services and third-party integrations from zero to one
  • Define the future state of major systems and services with scalable, reliable architecture
  • Identify and enable reusable patterns, tooling and AI-enabled development to accelerate delivery
  • Own the full product lifecycle from discovery to launch and iteration with product and design teams
  • Contribute across backend, API, frontend, mobile and distributed architecture while staying hands-on when needed
  • Guide engineers in architectural decisions, trade-offs and reliability/performance standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical choices with product and business goals
  • Challenge existing approaches and seek opportunities to expand engineering impact
Key requirements
  • 9+ years of software engineering experience in fast-paced, product-led environments
  • Strong backend expertise with large-scale, service-oriented and distributed systems
  • Experience building customer-facing products from zero to one
  • End-to-end product ownership with iteration based on feedback and adoption
  • Broad full-stack capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs and architecture
  • Strong architectural design skills for high-scale distributed services and APIs
  • Sound technical judgment balancing speed, scalability and long-term quality
