Staff Software Engineer | Identity

In this role you will strengthen and scale DeepL’s identity platform, owning end-to-end delivery from design to operation. You will mentor peers, drive architectural decisions for reliability and security, and handle incidents to keep the system robust at scale. You’ll shape the long-term roadmap for SSO, SCIM, and OIDC on modern cloud infrastructure. • Raise engineering bar through design reviews, mentoring, and pragmatic standards
• Own end-to-end delivery of identity services: design, implementation, deployment, and operation
• Respond to urgent incidents, diagnose, resolve, and implement preventive measures
• Balance feature delivery with high-traffic reliability and availability
• Set technical direction and trade-offs for reliability, availability, consistency, and security across identity
• Move identity platform from startup-grade to scalable infrastructure
• Shape long-term identity roadmap (SSO, SCIM, OIDC) on cloud infrastructure
• Lead analysis of complex needs and align stakeholders to deliver real solutions

• Production-grade backend engineering experience with ownership across teams
• Proven track record from design to deployment and operation
• Willingness to work on operational and incident tasks
• Experience building and operating reliable, high-throughput services
• Strong software engineering and architecture principles; ability to mentor
• Comfort in fast-moving, evolving org; ability to handle ambiguity
• Depth in identity and access platforms (SSO, OIDC, SCIM, session management); familiarity with cloud-native infra (EKS, Aurora, Redis) is a plus
