Overview

As Staff Software Engineer in Anthropic’s Infrastructure, you will lead multi-month, high-impact infrastructure projects that support training, serving, and securing large AI models. You’ll shape foundational architecture, collaborate with research and product teams, and drive reliability, scalability, and security as systems scale. This role offers cross-functional impact, with opportunities to mentor engineers and set technical standards. You’ll work in a collaborative, research-driven environment focused on steerable and trustworthy AI.

Responsibilities
  • Independently scope and lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects from ambiguous startups to production systems
  • Make architectural decisions that shape the foundation other engineers build on
  • Drive alignment on technical direction across teams in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Partner with research and product teams to translate infrastructure and compute needs into technical designs
  • Own reliability, scalability, and security of systems as usage grows
  • Set technical strategy and standards for the team’s infrastructure
  • Build and improve operational processes (incident response, postmortems, on-call rotations) for continuous learning
  • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team
Key requirements
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems in production
  • Experience scoping and delivering complex, multi-month technical projects
  • Experience making architectural decisions that others build on
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals; proficiency in Python, Rust, Go, or Java
  • Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes, IaC) on AWS and/or GCP
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with cross-team alignment experience
