Overview
In this role you will design, build and scale backend systems that support M&S’s international pricing across stores and online markets. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, secure solutions and champion engineering best practices. You will help shape platforms and integrations, focusing on observability and reliable performance. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-moving, engineering-led, globally focused retail tech environment.

- Proven track record building high-performing backend systems and integrations with focus on scalability and reliability
- Strong grasp of software engineering principles, patterns and best practices
- Experience with automated testing across unit, integration and system levels
- Hands-on DevSecOps experience at scale across enterprise applications
- Technical proficiency in Java, PL/SQL, JavaScript and modern CI/CD tooling
- Experience designing cloud-native apps with emphasis on performance, resilience, observability and security
- Excellent communication and ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Mentoring mindset and passion for knowledge sharing and raising standards
- Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and GenAI tools like Copilot with practical integration experience
- Desirable: experience in retail, international commerce or large-scale enterprise integrations
