Overview

As Staff Engineer at Funding Circle, you will lead high-impact platform work within the Platform Capabilities Engineering Group to enable product teams to deliver faster and more reliably. You’ll shape technical direction, standards, and architecture for core platforms that power business functionality. You’ll drive adoption of new technologies, including Generative AI, to transform engineering processes and outcomes. You’ll collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to balance centralisation with bespoke needs. This is a senior, impact-driven role at a mission-driven fintech.

Responsibilities
  • Own high-level solution design, standards, and technology decisions for your group
  • Lead collaboration with customer-facing product teams to shape the technical roadmap
  • Translate roadmap into target system and data architecture with milestones
  • Perform hands-on deep-dives when needed, while enabling teams to reduce future dependencies
  • Communicate risks, trade-offs, and solutions to diverse stakeholders
  • Represent Funding Circle externally at events to share trends and attract talent
Key requirements
  • Engineering leader with platform-domain technical lead experience (staff equivalent or SaaS founding/lead engineer)
  • Experience deciding when to centralise versus tailor internal platforms and driving adoption
  • Proficiency in at least one major language (Python, Ruby, Java)
  • Advocate for empowered engineering teams with coaching, mentoring, and sponsorship
  • Track record applying emerging technologies, especially Generative AI
  • Experience driving transformational change across an organisation
  • Strong stakeholder-management and ability to influence without formal authority
  • Commercial acumen and ability to articulate how tech drives business outcomes
