The Structural Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining theintegrity and functionality of the College’s structures andfixtures. This position involves a combination of carpentry,masonry, painting, and general building maintenance tasks to ensurea safe and aesthetically pleasing campus environment. The idealcandidate is skilled in various construction and repair techniques,with a focus on both reactive and proactive maintenance.

Position Title: Structural Specialist

Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regularfull-time

Supervisor: Supervisor of Structural Trades

Position Purpose: Maintains and repairs structures andfixtures on campus using a range of materials, including wood,concrete, mortar, and more. Applies paints, stains to interior andexterior surfaces, while also performing minor electrical andplumbing repairs as needed. Proactively identifies and executespreventative maintenance measures to uphold the overall structuralintegrity of the College’s facilities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Structural Repairs: Executes repairs on structures and fixturesusing wood and related building materials. Performs repairs withconcrete, mortar, stone, bricks, CMU, tile, and other relatedmaterials. Addresses issues related to wear and tear, damage, orother structural concerns.
  • Painting and Finishing: Applies paints, stains, and finishes tothe interior and exterior of buildings and fixtures. Preparessurfaces and selects appropriate materials to achieve ahigh-quality finish.
  • Minor Electrical and Plumbing Repairs: Conducts minorelectrical and plumbing repairs as necessary. Troubleshoots andresolves issues related to electrical and plumbing systems withinthe structures.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Proactively identifies potentialissues with structural elements on campus, elevating to supervisorwhen appropriate. Performs preventative maintenance to extend thelifespan of buildings and fixtures. Collaborates with othermaintenance and facilities staff to develop and implementmaintenance schedules.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, journey level accomplishmentin the masonry and/or carpentry trades, at least 4 years relatedexperience, or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
  • Safety-conscious. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Comfort working atheights and in confined spaces. Stamina for extended periods ofphysical activity.
  • Proven experience in carpentry, masonry, and generalconstruction work.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying paints, stains, andfinishes.
  • Familiarity with electrical and plumbing systems for minorrepairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive mindset in identifying and addressing maintenanceneeds.

Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $25-$30 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
