Student Internship - Full Stack Developer

The Project

GoodBot is building a repository of key resources, organizations, policies, and issues to help companies, civil society organizations, policymakers, and citizens advance responsible technology practices, individually and collectively.

As part of this, we're building a dashboard that captures signals from users and turns them into a policy-intelligence workflow — surfacing patterns in questions, gaps, and challenges that matter for coalition-building, advocacy, and research.

We're looking for a full stack engineer who can move comfortably across the whole stack — from interface to API to data — and help take this from concept to a working, reliable product.

The Full Stack Developer will work with the GoodBot Responsible Tech hub team to build and strengthen an ecosystem web application with information on emerging issues, policies, nonprofits, experts, books, podcasts and other resources as organizations work to navigate the rapid emergence of AI impacting different areas of personal and professional spaces.

Responsibilities

Build user-facing features using React.js and/or Next.js

Design and build backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI

Handle data manipulation, animations, and other supporting logic across the stack

Integrate frontend and backend cleanly, keeping the system reliable as it grows

Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and methodologies

Understand GoodBot's core values and the problems this project — and the organization more broadly — is trying to solve

Requirements

Actively enrolled in a degree program in Canada at this time

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Proven experience as a full stack developer

Expertise in React.js and/or Next.js and its core principles (preferably)

Proficiency in Python and experience with PostgreSQL and FastAPI or similar frameworks

Familiarity with RESTful APIs

Comfort working with supporting libraries for things like date handling, animations, and data manipulation

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Passion for using technology to make a positive impact on society

Start Date, Term & Compensation

This is a 3-month full time (35 hours per week) position starting Sept to December . Compensation will be $21.00 per hour depending on experience.
