Locums - Bardstown, Kentucky General Surgery Opportunity

Clinical Role RecruitWell is seeking a Board Certified General Surgeon for ongoing locums coverage in Bardstown, Kentucky. This hospital-based assignment consists of 24-hour call coverage, including Emergency Department evaluations, inpatient rounding, and surgical procedures. Coverage is primarily needed for weekends and surgeon vacation support.

Assignment Details

  • Start: ASAP

  • Ongoing need

  • 2027 coverage dates to be determined

  • 24-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM

  • Hospital call coverage only

  • Weekend coverage

  • Reason for coverage: Surgeon vacation

  • Approximately 3 admissions per 24-hour period, depending on Emergency Department volume

Position Highlights

  • General Surgery call coverage

  • Inpatient rounding and Emergency Department consults

  • Mix of General Surgery and GI procedures

  • Adult and geriatric patient population

  • Adolescent patients may be considered case by case, generally age 12-13 and older

  • Epic EMR

  • OR call team and hospitalist support

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

  • Respond to Emergency Department General Surgery consultations

  • Evaluate and manage hospitalized surgical patients

  • Perform inpatient rounding

  • Provide operative management as clinically indicated

  • Manage acute General Surgery conditions

  • Coordinate care with hospitalists, inpatient nursing, and OR teams

Procedures & Skills

  • General Surgery procedures

  • Appendectomy

  • Colon-related surgical care

  • Bowel resections

  • Wound management

  • Gallbladder surgery

  • Management of dysphagia

  • Management of GI bleeding

  • Colonoscopy

  • EGD

  • Laparoscopic procedures as clinically indicated

Support & Technology

  • OR call team

  • Hospitalist support

  • Inpatient nursing support

  • EMR: Epic

Requirements

  • Board Certified in General Surgery required

  • Board Eligible candidates will not be considered

  • Active Kentucky medical license required

  • IMLC candidates will not be considered

  • General Surgery residency required

  • ACLS required

  • BLS required

  • DEA required

  • PALS highly preferred

Organization & Team

  • Hospital-based General Surgery service

  • Call-only locums assignment

  • Combination of Emergency Department consults, inpatient rounding, and operative care

  • Coverage supports physician vacation needs
