Overview

In this role you will manage the Systems Engineering Process to company and international standards and provide technical leadership to Systems Engineers. You will convert requirements into conceptual designs, run analyses and trade-offs, and oversee test specifications and acceptance activities. You will work with cross-functional teams and clients to define and verify system performance, ensuring compliant, high-quality outcomes. This position sits at the intersection of engineering excellence and strategic defence technology within Thales UK’s Under Water Systems business. You will contribute to mission-critical sensor and decision-support capabilities that enhance naval security.

Responsibilities
  • Translate requirements into conceptual designs and document them via analyses and trade-off studies.
  • Oversee development lifecycle activities and ensure quality targets are met.
  • Interface with clients for test specification approvals and host acceptance testing.
  • Develop and execute test plans and strategies; document results and manage defect investigations.
  • Prepare system and subsystem requirements, interfaces, and test documents.
  • Define system designs and refine customer requirements through analysis and modelling.
  • Supervise staff, assign work, coach on deliverables, and monitor progress.
  • Estimate work packages and ensure cost-effective compliant solutions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain tools for Systems Engineering; assess relevant tools.
  • Define or update processes and standards for Systems Engineering; stay current with domain developments.
  • Produce quality metrics to gauge the effectiveness of Systems Engineering processes.
Key requirements
  • Proven experience in a Systems Engineering environment with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across levels.
