Title: Systems Engineer Salary range: £55,500 to £80,000 per annum (depending on capability and experience) Location: Bristol, Gloucester Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home. As demand for our Digital and Systems Engineering capability continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team. This is an opportunity to work on high‑profile programmes across defence, government, energy, infrastructure and other mission‑critical sectors, helping clients shape, acquire and deliver the technologies that will define their future capabilities. You will take a leading role in solving complex technical and business challenges, applying systems thinking to develop robust, practical solutions. Working directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, you will help define requirements, shape architectures, manage complexity and ensure effective delivery of technology‑enabled systems. Alongside project delivery, you will provide technical leadership, build trusted client relationships, and support the development of colleagues across the wider capability. The role combines systems engineering, consulting and problem‑solving at its core. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking initiative, can navigate ambiguity, communicate with stakeholders at all levels, and translate complex concepts into actionable outcomes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Client Delivery Manage the application of systems engineering principles across the system lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition through to delivery, integration, verification and validation. Lead requirements capture, stakeholder engagement and business analysis activities for complex programmes. Develop and maintain system architectures, operational concepts and systems engineering approaches and tools. Deliver technical leadership on digital systems, technology acquisition and capability development programmes. Facilitate workshops and provide expert advice to senior client stakeholders. Identify, assess and manage technical, programme and business risks. Provide objective assurance and review of system designs, architectures and engineering approaches. Support clients in implementing systems engineering best practice and governance frameworks.
  • Business Development Support business development activities including opportunity identification, proposal development and bid writing. Campaign into new business areas to develop client relationships and identify opportunities for follow‑on work. Contribute to capability growth through development of propositions, methodologies and thought leadership. Represent the organisation at customer meetings, industry events and technical forums. Give speeches and presentations inside and outside of the business.
  • Capability Development Get involved! Contribute to company initiatives, capability development strategies and committees. Share your ideas – support recruitment, capability development and knowledge sharing activities. Develop as a team! Promote engineering methods and standards, and learn from others about new areas.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Experience as a Systems Engineer or a technical engineering role within complex technical or operational environments. Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management. Experience in requirements engineering, architecture development, systems integration and verification & validation to delivery solutions. Effective stakeholder management and facilitation skills. Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and delivering client‑facing consultancy engagements, problem‑solving complex issues. Effective communication and teamwork abilities, helping to bring out the best in yourself and the team. Relevant certifications (e.g., CiSSP, CISM, MCSE, CCNA, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) are required. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent priorities.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

Experience within Defence, National Security, Government, Critical Infrastructure, Aerospace, Energy or Transport sectors. Knowledgeable in digital engineering, enterprise architecture, cyber security, AI/ML‑enabled systems or cloud technologies. Familiarity with Agile, SAFe or traditional programme delivery frameworks. Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or progress towards professional registration. INCOSE certification or equivalent systems engineering accreditation. Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
