Systems Engineer - Data Engineering

In this role you will design and operate data architectures, building scalable pipelines and DataOps infrastructure to transform raw data into usable information. You will work with cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision making and governance, enabling both batch and real-time processing. You will shape how data supports prescriptive and predictive analytics, contributing to Leonardo’s mission of advancing technology and safety. • Orchestrate ingestion, processing, and storage of raw data in structured and unstructured repositories
• Design, develop, deploy, and support data infrastructure, pipelines, and architecture
• Automate data ingestion with reliable, scalable solutions
• Develop batch and real-time data processing systems
• Support data governance and collaborate with domain teams to scale processing
• Identify data acquisition opportunities and combine data from diverse sources
• Maintain tools for data quality and reliability and explore improvements
• Collaborate with data scientists, IT, and architects on multiple projects

• Experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and data warehouses
• Proficiency with DataOps, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, and workflow orchestration
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT frameworks and Big Data tools (e.g. Spark, Airflow, Hive)
• Programming experience in Java, Python, SQL
• Hands-on SQL/NoSQL database design
• Degree in STEM (master’s a plus)
• Data engineering certification is a plus
