Systems Engineer (Safety)

In this role you will support the development, integration and verification of complex aerospace systems, embedding safety throughout the lifecycle. You will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary Brighton team in the Release Systems & Antennas division, translating customer needs into solid requirements and architectures. You will contribute to safety artefacts and analyses (FHA, PHA, FMEA, FTA) and participate in design, integration and verification reviews. This is a hands-on role with impact on airworthiness and system safety.

- Develop and manage system requirements with traceability from customer needs to verification
- Define system architecture and interfaces across mechanical, electrical, and software elements
- Contribute to system integration, verification and validation activities
- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, test readiness)
- Maintain engineering documentation (requirements, interfaces, verification plans)
- Develop system safety artefacts per aerospace/defense standards
- Perform hazard identification and analysis (FHA, PHA, FMEA, FTA)
- Maintain Hazard Logs and ensure safety requirements are allocated and verified
- Support Quarterly Airworthiness Review Board processes
- Collaborate with design, mechanical, electrical and software teams; engage with customers and suppliers
- Resolve technical issues and integration challenges
- Experience with complex engineering systems (aerospace/defense/high-integrity)
- Understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management
- Some exposure to system safety engineering
- Experience managing technical documentation and requirements
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience with safety standards ARP4754, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, Def Stan 00-056
- Experience contributing to hazard analyses (FMEA, FTA, FHA)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical information across disciplines
