Overview

In this role you will design, develop and test time and frequency synchronization systems to support high-precision timing for space missions. You’ll work with atomic clocks, GNSS, and various time transfer methods, exploring innovative solutions in timing such as quantum technologies and ML applications. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver robust timing hardware and software, and you’ll contribute to field deployments and documentation. This position emphasizes impact on mission-critical timing infrastructure and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Design and support time distribution systems and transfer methods (White Rabbit, TWSTFT, GNSS, NTP, PTP)
  • Develop and maintain timescales for high-precision applications
  • Support field deployments, commissioning, and troubleshooting of timing hardware and software
  • Produce technical documentation including requirements, design justifications, and test reports
Key requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications, or related field
  • Solid understanding of time synchronisation principles, time transfer protocols, and timing architectures
  • Experience with frequency standards, time interval measurement, and synchronization systems
  • Familiarity with time and frequency stability metrics (Allan Deviation, phase noise)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • UK national with ability to obtain SC or above security clearance
