As D&I Systems Operations Lead you will steer the Systems Operations team to deliver reliable server infrastructure and services in support of NHS Trust priorities. You will provide technical leadership, manage multiple infrastructure initiatives, and oversee DR/BC planning, incident, problem and change processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, report on capacity and risk, and participate in the on-call rota. This role blends hands-on governance with strategic improvement in a high-stakes, patient-focused setting.

- Lead and manage the Systems Operations Engineers team to design, develop, support, maintain, and continuously improve the systems infrastructure
- Inform the Systems Manager about operational capacity, functionality, risks, changes and problems of the server estate
- Manage multiple infrastructure projects and new initiatives; oversee DR and BC planning
- Provide expert guidance and technical leadership to junior, senior, and advanced engineers
- Investigate complex D&I issues following established policies and practices
- Ensure a structured approach to problem, incident, and change management
- Apply latest security patches, server upgrades/migrations, daily maintenance, SQL maintenance, backup testing, AD group policy changes, VM tools and hardware; maintain on-call coverage
- Assist with systems/tools deployment and IT estate testing/maintenance across revision levels
- Support compliance checks and controls; maintain up-to-date System Level Security Policy (SLSP)
- Act as Deputy/System Manager or Product Expert for Systems Operations tools such as MS Active Directory, MS Server & SQL, Commvault
- Produce reports and evidence for IG Toolkit; provide input to change management requests
- Collaborate with other D&I managers to test, repair and maintain IT estate
- Graduate-calibre professional with proven experience managing enterprise-scale server infrastructures
- Educated to degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Demonstrable experience leading technical teams from inception to delivery of projects and new systems
- Experience managing large-scale, complex systems and planning migrations/refreshes
- Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent experience
- Experience working within NHS Trusts and with national forums/technical groups
- Knowledge of ITIL standards
- Strong networking experience within NHS Trusts and related groups
