Technical Consultant - Subsidence

Overview

In this role you support Support Operations on technical aspects and referrals, driving high-quality service, cost control and development of people and service. You act as a subsidence champion and technical referral point, enabling efficient end-to-end handling and continuous improvement. You work closely with Subsidence Advisers and cross-functional teams to fix system blockages and enhance customer satisfaction. You will mentor and develop the team, balancing hands-on work with strategic coaching to sustain performance and change readiness. This is a mission-driven role focused on proactive problem solving, technical excellence and strong stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and technical referral support to Support Operations to maximize claim progression and mitigation
  • Act as subsidence champion and drive end-to-end process improvements to reduce duration and cost while boosting customer satisfaction
  • Coach, inspire and develop technical excellence within the team; identify opportunities for improvement with Managers
  • Spend majority of time in the field with Subsidence Advisers to troubleshoot, take referrals and resolve issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Subsidence Operations, Supply Chain, etc.) to optimize processes across the claims lifecycle
  • Support learning and development by coordinating training programmes and assessing employee development needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external parties to ensure customer demands are met
  • Maintain up-to-date technical skills and knowledge, handling a small caseload during busy periods
  • Foster a facilitative management style and promote empowerment to design work aligned with customer demand
Key requirements
  • Chartered Building Professional – MRICS/MCIOB/CEng or equivalent essential
  • Insurance qualification (Cert CII/CiLA)
  • Experience of team management
  • Extensive experience in mitigation and recovery
  • Experience in insurer/client environments
  • Experience in training and development
  • Strong technical knowledge of Building Construction and Insurance Principles
  • Strong problem solving, dispute resolution, and financial literacy skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to articulate complex issues
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and manage change
  • Proven ability to deliver results under tight timescales
  • Mentoring and motivational skills
  • Effective communication and relationship-building
  • Organisation and time management
  • Detailed knowledge of Building Construction
  • Detailed knowledge of Insurance Principles
