Overview

In this role you provide senior technical leadership for GHD’s regulated power utilities portfolio, combining deep subject-matter authority with client leadership and delivery excellence. You will set technical standards, govern engagements, and advise executives. You’ll expand relationships with regulators, system operators, and government bodies while leading multi-million-pound programs. Responsibilities
  • Act as Senior Technical Authority for major regulated power and utilities engagements
  • Set and assure technical methodologies, frameworks, and governance across the practice
  • Lead and review work on electricity networks, regulation, renewables integration, system operability, and resilience
  • Provide authoritative advice to clients at executive, regulator, and board level
  • Build and expand senior relationships across utilities, regulators, system operators, and government bodies; operate as seller-doer to shape, win, and deliver high-value advisory work
  • Lead multi-million-pound engagements from bid through delivery; ensure quality, compliance, commercial performance, and client satisfaction
  • Mentor senior engineers and emerging leaders; embed technical excellence and thought leadership; support succession planning and recruitment of senior technical talent
  • Influence long-term programs in regulatory strategy, network development, and future energy systems
  • Contribute to major projects in electricity transmission and distribution advisory, regulatory price control strategy, grid integration, and system resilience
  • Support the re-establishment of a strong senior technical presence in regulated utilities across the UK
Key requirements
  • Senior technical leadership experience within regulated electricity, power networks, or regulatory advisory
  • Credible operating experience engaging at executive, regulator, or board level
  • Proven track record leading and delivering complex consultancy engagements (ideally 1m+)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement across utilities, regulators, and system operators
  • Desirable: established relationships within the UK utilities and regulatory landscape
  • Desirable: experience contributing to regulatory submissions, industry guidance, or thought leadership
  • Desirable: ability to bring or build technical followership
  • Desirable: international regulated energy market exposure
