Overview
Lead the Data Platform to enable fast, reliable data services for the company and its data teams. You will define the target architecture, drive Snowflake-based platform evolution, and mentor engineers to build scalable data products. This role sits at the core of a data modernization effort and collaborates with domain teams, data scientists, and governance functions. You’ll shape how data supports business decisions and the company’s mission to empower small businesses.

- Define and execute the platform engineering plan aligned with the target architecture
- Own Snowflake infrastructure, RBAC, ingestion patterns, orchestration (Airflow), CI/CD, observability and cost controls
- Record and communicate technical decisions; escalate to architecture review when needed
- Grow and mentor the engineering team; promote knowledge sharing and fast, deep reviews
- Enable domain teams, Data Scientists, Analysts and AI Agents to build on the platform with reusable patterns
- Lead the platform side of the Athena Snowflake migration: landing, reconciliation, cutover, decommissioning legacy system
- Ensure operational excellence with on-call quality, incidents, runbooks, and disaster recovery
- Own security and governance controls on the platform in collaboration with Security and Data Governance
- Manage relationships with platform vendors; handle support, escalations, and roadmap input
- Explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders; articulate risks and decisions
- Set standards for AI-assisted engineering and safe, scalable use of tools like Claude and Copilot
- Collaborate with the Principal Engineer to translate cross-domain architecture into platform deliverables
- 8+ years in Data & Analytics with architectural leadership experience
- Deep Snowflake knowledge, ideally with Iceberg/open table formats and RBAC
- Advanced SQL, Python, enterprise-grade dbt model development
- Experience designing end-to-end data pipelines (batch, file-based, streaming via Kafka/CDC) with Airflow
- Strong data security and governance understanding (PII handling and access control)
- Infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD proficiency
- Proven ability to write clear design docs and communicate risks to stakeholders
- Experience architecting AI solutions and automated systems, with safe, maintainable implementations
