As Tech Lead, you drive technical direction across multiple services while contributing hands-on to deliver high-quality software. You will oversee design, development, and assurance for run-and-maintain and transformative work, using a mix of languages and cloud platforms. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver user-centered, scalable solutions for UK government digital services. Responsibilities
  • Lead technical teams and define architecture for multiple services
  • Provide hands-on coding and full lifecycle delivery from design to QA
  • Guide technology choices (Python/TypeScript, AWS/Azure, Terraform) and ensure best practices
  • Drive quality assurance, code reviews, and process optimisation across services
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across Product, UCD and Delivery to balance technical, user, and business needs
  • Mentor and coach developers to foster high-performing teams
  • Lead projects end-to-end and translate customer requirements into technical designs
  • Champion user-centered design and prioritise research and design in development lifecycle
Key requirements
  • Experience leading technical teams with ability to define technical strategy and architecture
  • Full-stack or backend background with Python and TypeScript (or similar)
  • Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS or Azure and IaC with Terraform
  • Experience delivering UK Government digital services, familiar with GDS/NHS Service Standard
  • Strong collaborative leadership across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to balance technical, user and business priorities
  • Excellent communication, able to present to non-technical audiences
  • Proven track record in QA, code reviews, and process optimisation
  • Experience leading projects from start to finish and stakeholder management
  • Full lifecycle delivery experience and mentoring capabilities
