Overview

As a Technical Principal at ThoughtWorks, you lead technical delivery on client engagements, shaping strategic technical roadmaps and architecture. You’ll mentor teams, collaborate with senior IT leaders, and drive ThoughtWorks’ engineering standards in enterprise contexts. The role combines hands-on coding with advisory responsibility, on-site delivery, and ongoing client relationship building. You will influence technology strategy and foster innovation in complex, scalable solutions with a strong emphasis on agile and delivery excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Formulate and drive the technical roadmap and technology solution aligned with client business goals
  • Provide cross-functional technical leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Articulate the technical and political implications of real-world solutions
  • Manage technology scope and risk across engagements
  • Mentor teams on approaches, technologies, and solution capabilities
  • Ensure deliverables meet technical expectations and quality standards
  • Contribute to ThoughtWorks’ engineering practices and standards as a thought leader
  • Build trusted relationships with client CIO/CTO and senior stakeholders
  • Support networking and business development activities with clients
  • Maintain expertise on current and emerging technologies and products
  • Code on customer-site engagements and stay hands-on in delivery and architecture
Key requirements
  • Expertise across multiple technologies (Java, .NET, Ruby/Rails/Scala/Clojure, etc.)
  • Experience as an architect or leading software development teams
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Lean/Continuous Delivery environments
  • Enterprise web application design and infrastructure architecture experience
  • Ability to create robust, scalable software solutions for business transformation
  • Experience advising senior IT groups and shaping technical strategy with CTO/COO
  • Willingness to be on-site with clients and travel as needed
  • Active contribution to the professional community (speaking, writing) (ideally)
