As Senior Teaching and Research Laboratory Technician, you will support the Technical Supervisor in running and safeguarding teaching and research laboratories. You’ll coordinate facilities, procurement, and inventories while ensuring safety and compliance. This student-facing role involves supervising and instructing students in safe lab operation and collaborating with Estates and external contractors. You’ll contribute to efficient lab management and forward planning of resources, enabling high-quality teaching and research.

- Assist the Technical Supervisor with best-practice management of facilities, including forward planning of materials, equipment, and space usage
- Support asset control, maintenance, purchasing/procurement, stock levels, and inventory recording for laboratory/workshop facilities
- Act as deputy for the Technical Supervisor in their absence and represent the department in meetings
- Ensure laboratory equipment and instrumentation are maintained and functional, especially designated custodian labs
- Contribute to H&S inductions, laser and chemical safety, cryogenic liquids/systems, and ordering consumables
- Provide guidance and supervision to students during timetabled sessions and research projects
- Liaise with Estates and external contractors and set up/manage service contracts for equipment
- Maintain up-to-date inventories and service records for equipment
- Support overall lab operations and compliance with health and safety policies
