Overview

In this role you will support national data services across NHS Scotland by translating business needs into robust technical specifications. You will work with large, complex datasets to shape data models, pipelines, and data warehouses, enabling accurate reporting and insights. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in an agile, DevOps-driven environment to deliver scalable data solutions that underpin health information and services. This is a data-centric role with a strong impact on national programmes and data quality.

Responsibilities
  • Translate business needs into clear technical specifications and data requirements
  • Document data mappings and transformation logic for robust pipelines
  • Shape data models and data warehouse structures to support reporting and insights
  • Work across the full delivery lifecycle from requirements through validation and implementation
  • Collaborate with technical colleagues, delivery teams, and stakeholders in an Agile/DevOps environment
  • Assess data sources, data quality, and profiling to ensure trustworthy outputs
  • Define data flows and document data lineage and validation measures
  • Support development teams with implementable specifications for data pipelines
Key requirements
  • Experience in business and technical analysis with requirements elicitation and validation
  • Ability to translate business needs into precise technical specifications
  • Experience with large, complex datasets, including data profiling and data quality assessment
  • Strong understanding of data structures, data warehousing concepts, and backend data processes
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and clear communication of complex information
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle with plan, milestone, and delivery-oriented work
