The Role

Join the TechOps function to maintain, secure and improve a hybrid enterprise technology estate. The role takes end-to-end ownership of operational tasks and small-to-medium projects, resolves complex infrastructure issues, strengthens controls, automates repeatable activity and creates clear, supportable documentation. The successful candidate will provide immediate capacity while reducing concentration of knowledge and ownership across the existing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and improve Windows Server, VMware/vCenter, storage, backup and disaster-recovery services, including server builds, restores, lifecycle management and decommissioning.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, with particular emphasis on Exchange Online, mail flow, mailbox permissions, retention, Teams and related messaging security platforms.
  • Manage identity and privileged access across Entra ID and Active Directory, including enterprise applications, app registrations, certificates, secrets, SSO, RBAC and access reviews.
  • Support enterprise networking and connectivity - firewalls, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi, circuits and monitoring - diagnosing faults and delivering controlled infrastructure changes.
  • Deliver endpoint and device-management improvements using Intune, Autopilot and Windows tooling, including policy remediation, application deployment and device lifecycle tasks.
  • Execute patching, vulnerability remediation, software upgrades and end-of-life activities in line with change-control and security requirements.
  • Automate repetitive operational work using PowerShell, APIs, PowerCLI and infrastructure-as-code practices, improving alerting, reporting and data quality.
  • Maintain monitoring and operational assurance across SolarWinds and other platforms, investigating alerts, capacity issues, backup exceptions and service degradation.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, runbooks, knowledge articles and recovery procedures that are usable by the wider team.
  • Own assigned work from intake through prioritisation, testing, change approval, implementation, communication and closure, actively managing dependencies and risks.
  • Collaborate with Security, the Service Desk, Business Systems, workplace technology, suppliers and business stakeholders, escalating clearly when cross-team action is required.

  • Ability to script operational solutions in PowerShell and integrate systems through APIs, with a track record of removing manual steps and improving reliability.
  • Security-minded approach to patching, vulnerability remediation, privileged access, certificate/secret renewal, hardening and audit evidence.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to create concise, accurate runbooks, diagrams, technical standards and stakeholder updates.

  • Balances pace with control - tests changes, records evidence, plans rollback and avoids creating unsupported technical debt.
