Track Technology Manager
Global Sports Jobs Limited
About the Role
Formula E is seeking a Trackside Technology Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery, stability and management of its technical footprint at all championship race and test events. The role bridges strategic supplier management and hands-on trackside execution under live-broadcast pressure, operating as the primary point of contact for all event-specific connectivity. The post-holder manages tier-one suppliers, maps complex fibre rings and ensures flawless communication channels for race control, TV broadcasters and teams, balancing meticulous pre-event planning with rapid real-time problem-solving. This is not an office-bound IT position; it is a high-octane, hands-on role in the heart of global electric street racing.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the uptime of mission-critical Sporting, Communications and Event networks, guaranteeing uptime and flawless latency stability during every official track session so that safety and performance are never compromised.
- Produce and sign off detailed network layouts, physical fibre path diversity plans and redundancy architectures before the event build begins, eliminating single points of failure at temporary street circuits and permanent tracks.
- Oversee the physical installation, splicing and testing of fibre rings, as well as off-season maintenance and international customs paperwork for technology freight.
- Act as the central interface for all ad-hoc connectivity requests, configuring dedicated Wi-Fi networks for VIP hospitality, distributing IP-CCTV feeds to broadcasters and managing bandwidth allocation (ACLs) for race teams.
- Author comprehensive technical debriefs within 72 hours of every race, analysing vendor performance against strict SLAs, documenting technical incidents and outlining systemic improvements for the next event.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering, systems administration, or IT project delivery.
- At least 2 years operating in high-pressure, live-event or motorsport environments (e.g. Formula E, F1, WEC, or tier-1 sports broadcasting).
- Deep expertise in enterprise networking (LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing, firewalls) and wireless technologies (RF planning, Wi-Fi 6/7, spectrum management).
- Comfort discussing IP protocols (Dante, AES67, PTP) and hands‑on ability to handle outdoor‑rated fibre‑optic cabling and copper deployments in the pit lane.
- Proven track record of managing high‑value technical contracts and holding on‑site delivery partners, especially timekeeping or telemetry suppliers, accountable to strict SLAs.
- Ability to maintain professional authority across different cultures and languages.
- Exceptional mental agility, a logical troubleshooting mindset and the ability to translate complex technical failures into clear, actionable updates for executive leadership and race officials in real time.
- Physical and mental stamina to thrive during challenging on‑site schedules, outdoor weather extremes and constant international travel, maintaining a meticulous, zero‑error mindset despite timezone fatigue.
Workplace
- Hybrid role, requiring three days a week in the Hammersmith, London office.
Benefits & Perks
- 25 days' annual leave, birthday day off and wellbeing leave.
- Opportunity to extend your stay if travelling for a race event.
- Health Cash Plan and access to the Aviva Digital Workplace app.
- Enhanced parental leave.
- Flexible bank holidays.
- Paid volunteer and carer's leave.
- Cycle to Work and Electric Car Scheme.
