In this role you will provide technical leadership for traffic engineering and Traffic Regulation Orders to deliver safe, compliant transport solutions across the city. You will guide high-profile projects, oversee quality assurance, and manage budgets while collaborating with managers, teams, and external partners to meet Bristol's transport ambitions. You will influence decision-making at senior levels and support staff development. Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and expert advice on traffic engineering and Traffic Regulation Order matters
  • Lead the development and delivery of complex and high-profile transport projects and initiatives
  • Supervise, quality assure and provide technical sign-off for complex traffic engineering schemes
  • Manage project budgets, resources and programme delivery to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Work collaboratively across teams, departments and external organisations to develop and implement transport solutions
  • Represent Bristol City Council at public meetings, consultation events and committee meetings, presenting complex technical information to a range of audiences
  • Support staff development and contribute to service improvement, innovation and best practice across the Transport Service
Key requirements
  • Experienced traffic engineering professional with substantial technical expertise
  • Strong understanding of transport services, legislation, policies, and standards underpinning traffic engineering and TROs
  • Expert knowledge of TSRGD 2016 and TRO procedures
  • Experience leading complex projects, managing budgets and resources
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Confident communicator capable of presenting technical information to councillors, stakeholders, and the public
  • Ability to develop colleagues within the team and contribute to service improvement
