Overview

In this role you will help modernise a large travel and transport organisation's digital ecosystem by building scalable backend services in TypeScript and contributing to frontend UI when needed. You will work within a cross-functional engineering team to design event-driven, data-rich APIs and tooling that support distributed cloud workloads. The position offers hands-on work with modern stacks and a focus on reliability, observability, and developer experience. This is a chance to shape how data flows across business units and enable core applications.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement backend services in TypeScript using Node.js (REST, GraphQL, workers, event-driven consumers)
  • Build and integrate services interacting with event-sourced or streaming systems
  • Create clean APIs and internal tools to improve data distribution
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code using modern testing frameworks
  • Occasionally contribute to simple React/Next.js UI screens for configuration or internal tools
  • Improve system reliability, observability, and developer efficiency through metrics, logging, and automation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, contributing to planning, delivery, and code reviews
  • Support continuous improvement of codebases, development workflows, and shared engineering standards
Key requirements
  • Expert-level TypeScript experience with strong Node.js production proficiency
  • Experience designing REST or GraphQL APIs, workers, and microservices
  • Proficiency with SQL or NoSQL databases and data modeling
  • Knowledge of distributed systems concepts, event sourcing, resilience, and asynchronous communication
  • Experience with Docker and deploying cloud-native apps (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Strong DevOps understanding: CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code
  • Proficiency in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing with TypeScript tools
  • Strong Git/GitHub workflows and collaborative teamwork
