User Researcher

Beyond The Book

Dartford · Kent · United Kingdom

Fully remote within the UK

Optional compressed four-day working week

BTB is working with a digital experience and technology agency that places human behaviour at the heart of the websites, digital products and experiences it creates.

They are looking for a User Researcher who can plan and own research, combine qualitative and quantitative evidence, and turn insight into clear recommendations for clients and delivery teams.

This is a hands-on role with genuine ownership and visibility. You’ll work alongside UX, technology, project management and client services colleagues, helping teams understand their audiences and make better-informed decisions.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and owning research projects from initial question through to findings and recommendations
  • Defining appropriate methodologies, activities, outputs and intended outcomes
  • Creating test plans, discussion guides, surveys and other research materials
  • Conducting interviews, moderated usability testing, focus groups and validation activity
  • Using Google Analytics, survey responses, behavioural data and customer information alongside primary research
  • Synthesising evidence into clear findings, reports, presentations and recommendations
  • Contributing to personas, journey maps, service design, user stories and product roadmaps
  • Presenting your thinking confidently to clients and senior stakeholders
  • Working collaboratively across UX, technical, project and client-facing teams

What they’re looking for

Research should be at the centre of your professional experience. This is unlikely to suit a UX or Product Designer whose research involvement has formed only a small part of a broader design role.

You’ll need:

  • Practical experience across both qualitative and quantitative research
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics
  • Evidence that you have personally planned and owned a research project
  • The ability to explain why particular methods were selected and what each contributed
  • Confidence turning evidence into useful recommendations
  • Clear communication and presentation skills

It would be particularly valuable if you also bring experience or interest in:

  • Accessibility and inclusive research
  • Ethical and effective research practice
  • Product roadmaps and prioritisation
  • Service design and journey mapping
  • Jobs to be Done or behavioural science
  • Agency, consultancy or client-facing environments
  • Brand, copywriting or broader consumer insight

You don’t need to cover every desirable area. The agency is interested in someone with strong research foundations, intellectual curiosity and the confidence to take ownership, while continuing to develop their wider strategic capabilities.

What’s on offer

  • Salary of £35,000–£45,000 depending on experience
  • Fully remote working within the UK
  • Quarterly travel to Kent or London, with occasional client meetings
  • Office space available if required
  • Flexible working and an optional compressed four-day week
  • Private healthcare

If you are a researcher who enjoys getting beneath the surface of user behaviour and influence real digital decisions, we’d be very happy to hear from you.
