z/OS Mainframe Storage Engineer

In this role, you will own the storage layer of IBM z/OS environments, ensuring high availability and optimal performance for mission-critical systems. You will work within a cross-functional team to design, implement, and modernize enterprise storage solutions, including backups, DR, and capacity planning. You will drive automation and standardization to improve reliability and efficiency. This opportunity offers impact through shaping resilient mainframe storage in a global, regulated enterprise.

• Manage mainframe disk and storage administration including provisioning, upgrades, restoration, and ongoing support
• Perform daily operations: health checks, incident management, monitoring, and issue resolution
• Plan storage capacity expansions and infrastructure changes
• Configure and maintain storage resources for databases, VSAM, work datasets, and sort spaces
• Administer storage management products (CA Disk and related utilities)
• Install, test, and maintain storage hardware/software
• Handle z/OS hardware planning (IODF, LPAR, HMC) and system changes
• Oversee backup, recovery, archival, and DR solutions
• Use SMP/E and z/OSMF for software maintenance and deployment
• Manage storage volume allocation, capacity reporting, and utilization
• Support DR testing and exercises
• Perform root-cause analysis for storage incidents and implement preventive actions
• Collaborate with systems programming, network, DB and application teams
• Leverage automation tools (NetView, System Automation SA z/OS, CA OPS/MVS) to improve efficiency
• Automate repetitive storage admin and monitoring tasks
• Design and support IBM zSeries storage architectures and solutions
• Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards
• Maintain technical docs, procedures, and runbooks
• Demonstrate ownership and technical leadership in managing mission-critical storage services

• 8 to 15+ years in Mainframe Infrastructure and z/OS Storage Administration
• Hands-on IBM z/OS storage in large-scale enterprises
• Experience with IBM DS8000 series storage, virtual tape systems, DR solutions, and storage management products
• Proven storage capacity management, backup/recovery, replication, and enterprise operations
• Experience in Banking/Financial Services or other regulated environments preferred
• IBM DS8000 (DS8870, DS8K) knowledge
• DSCLI, GDPS, PPRC Metro Mirror, DFHSM, DFDSS, ICKDSF, SMS, RMM customization, z/OS IODF administration
• Experience installing/upgrading storage hardware/software
• Understanding of Mainframe Disk Storage Management, Provisioning, Capacity Planning, Backup/Recovery, DR
• Experience with TS7720 Virtual Tape, Storage Grid Architectures, PPRC replication
• Experience with EMC DLm Virtual Tape, Broadcom/Brocade storage networking and FICON
• Knowledge of z/OS, JCL, Job Scheduling, Mainframe Storage Infrastructure
• SMP/E and z/OSMF maintenance/deployment
