z/OS Mainframe Storage Engineer

As a z/OS Mainframe Storage Engineer, you will manage and optimize enterprise mainframe storage for IBM z/OS environments. You will design, implement, and support disk and tape storage, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity planning, ensuring high availability and resilience. You will collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and application teams to deliver reliable storage services at scale. • Manage mainframe disk and storage administration, including provisioning, upgrades, restoration, and ongoing support
• Perform daily operations: health checks, incident management, monitoring, and issue resolution
• Plan storage capacity expansions and infrastructure changes
• Configure and maintain storage for databases, VSAM, work datasets, and sort spaces
• Administer storage management products (e.g., CA Disk)
• Install, test, and maintain storage hardware and software
• Plan and perform z/OS hardware activities (IODF, LPAR, HMC)
• Manage backup, recovery, archival, and DR solutions
• Use SMP/E and z/OSMF for software maintenance and deployment
• Oversee storage volume allocation, capacity planning, and utilization reporting
• Support DR testing and recovery exercises
• Perform root cause analysis for storage incidents and implement preventive actions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless service delivery
• Leverage automation tools (NetView, SA, CA OPS/MVS) to improve efficiency
• Automate repetitive storage tasks
• Design and support IBM zSeries storage architectures
• Maintain security, governance, and operational standards
• Maintain technical documentation and runbooks
• Provide after-hours support when needed
• Demonstrate ownership and technical leadership in mission-critical storage services

• 8 to 15+ years of experience in Mainframe Infrastructure and z/OS Storage Administration
• Hands-on IBM z/OS storage experience in large-scale enterprises
• Experience with IBM DS8000 series storage, virtual tape systems, DR solutions, and storage management products
• Proven ability to manage storage capacity, backup/recovery, replication, and operations
• Experience in Banking/Financial Services or other regulated environments preferred
• IBM DS8000 Series Storage (DS8870, DS8K) experience
• DSCLI, GDPS, PPRC Metro Mirror, DFHSM, DFDSS, ICKDSF, SMS
• z/OS IODF Administration
• Experience with storage hardware/software upgrades
• Mainframe Disk Storage Management, Storage Provisioning, Capacity Planning, Backup & Recovery, Disaster Recovery
• TS7720 Virtual Tape Systems, Storage Grid Architectures, PPRC Replication Environments
• EMC DLm Virtual Tape experience
• Broadcom/Brocade storage networking and FICON connectivity
• SMP/E and z/OSMF for software maintenance and deployment
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
