z/OS Mainframe Storage Engineer

In this role you will manage and optimize enterprise mainframe storage for IBM z/OS, overseeing disk, tape, backup, and disaster recovery. You’ll work across infrastructure, operations, and application support teams to ensure high availability and performance of critical systems. You’ll drive storage modernization, capacity planning, and automation within a large, regulated enterprise. This is a hands-on leadership role that shapes storage architecture and operational excellence across global data centers.

• Manage mainframe disk and storage administration including provisioning, restoration, and ongoing support
• Perform daily health checks, incident management, monitoring, and issue resolution
• Plan storage capacity expansions and infrastructure changes
• Configure and maintain storage resources for databases, VSAM, work datasets, and sort spaces
• Administer storage management products (e.g., CA Disk)
• Install, test, and maintain storage hardware and software
• Conduct z/OS hardware planning (IODF, LPAR, HMC) and related changes
• Manage backup, recovery, archival, and disaster recovery solutions
• Utilize SMP/E and z/OSMF for software maintenance and deployment
• Monitor storage capacity usage and generate utilization reports
• Support disaster recovery testing and exercises
• Perform root cause analysis and preventive actions for storage incidents
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure service delivery
• Automate storage administration and monitoring tasks
• Design and support IBM zSeries storage architectures
• Maintain documentation and runbooks
• Demonstrate ownership and technical leadership in mission-critical storage services

• Typically 8 to 15+ years in Mainframe Infrastructure and z/OS Storage Administration
• Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS storage in large-scale enterprises
• Experience with IBM DS8000 series storage and virtual tape systems
• Proven storage capacity, backup/recovery, replication, and operations expertise
• Experience in Banking/Financial Services or other regulated environments preferred
