zOS Mainframe Systems Programmer

You will join a large z/OS mainframe environment to upgrade, maintain and support the z/OS operating system and key ISV products. You will collaborate with engineering teams to keep systems stable, available and up to date, while efficiently managing hardware and resources across LPARs. Your work will include security administration, data integrity, recovery planning, and performance optimization. This role offers an opportunity to shape enterprise-scale mainframe environments and contribute to critical client projects. You will engage in hardware refreshes and migrations, with a focus on reliable, secure operations and swift incident response.

• Upgrading, maintaining and supporting the z/OS operating system
• Upgrading and supporting ISV products from IBM and CA
• Collaborating with other engineering teams to keep systems stable, up to date and efficient
• Managing hardware and logical resources across LPARs (DASD, tape, HCD/HCM, LPAR in HMC)
• Security administration using RACF or equivalent
• Ensuring data integrity and swift recovery (DFSMShsm, recall management, FDR/ABR, FlashCopy/virtual tape)
• Optimizing throughput and response times using RMF/SMF, OMEGAMON or MainView, and WLM tuning
• Configuring and supporting mainframe connectivity (VTAM, SNA, TCP/IP, OSA, Coupling Facility)
• Executing OS and product upgrades with SMP/E, z/OSMF, and related tooling
• Producing system diagrams, runbooks and upgrade plans; coordinating with storage, networking, and security
• Planning and leading hardware refreshes, feature activations and migrations with minimal downtime
• Providing off-hours support for software changes as required
• Staying current with IBM Redbooks, release notes, firmware updates and vendor training
• Documentation and communication across teams

• Many years of z/OS systems programming experience
• Strong Parallel Sysplex skills
• Proficiency in z/OS, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL, RACF
• Experience installing IBM and CA products
• Deep knowledge of z/OS architecture (IPL, JES2/JES3, Sysplex, SMF, parmlib)
• Ability to write and debug system-level code (Assembler, REXX, JCL)
• Experience managing resources across LPARs (DASD, tape, HMC)
• Security administration with RACF or equivalent
• Analytical troubleshooting of abends and performance issues
